Robotics Team Program
We were so excited and pleased to have introduced our very first robotics team during the 2022-2023 school year at Taper. With the help from Los Angeles Robotics a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation and a grant through the Nelson Team Grants for SoCal VEX IQ Challenge teams, our Taper Tigers can participate and compete in the VEX IQ robotics program through The Rec Foundation (Robotics Education and Competition Foundation.)
With the continuously evolving technology and complexity of our world today, at Taper we recognize the need to equip our young scholars with the necessary skills and knowledge to evaluate and solve complex problems through effective and efficient solutions. Introducing robotics to our students is one positive way to begin building these vital and necessary skills, as it incorporates all four disciplines of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) it also builds and encourages teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
Our robotics team is led by our magnet coordinator Mr. Sayers and our computer lab instructional aide Ms. Chavez. With a five-student team assigned as programmers, builders, and drivers, the team builds a competition worthy robot to compete in local match leagues, which can lead to a State Competition and culminate in a final World Championship. Teams are also asked to submit an engineering notebook detailing their designs and ideas which the team will be judged on and participate in a team interview. Our team meets two days a week after school.
